Doggone Good Causes

"Rescue dogs have always been at the heart of The Black Dog. Our namesake, 'Black Dog,' was a rescue herself, and her story continues to inspire everything we do. In 2024 alone, we’ve wagged our way to raising over $25,000 for our shelter partners and helped 40 dogs find their forever homes. Since 2014, we've raised over $140,000 for animal shelters, helped hundreds of pups find new families, and donated over $5,000 in cozy new ShelterU blankets. Every tail wag, every new home—it's all part of our mission to make the world a little brighter for rescue dogs!"

The Black Dog: Giving Back Through Doggie Adoption Events

Since launching our inaugural Doggie Adoption Month in March 2014, The Black Dog has made this initiative one of our most cherished and impactful philanthropic endeavors. Twice a year, in March and September, our General Stores and Outlets team up with local animal shelters to host adoption events, offering adoptable dogs the chance to find their “furever” homes.

This program has flourished over the years, thanks to the strong partnerships we've built with animal rescues in the communities where we operate. In the decade since we first introduced the event, The Black Dog has raised more than $150,000 for local shelters and helped hundreds of dogs find loving homes.

This year alone, we've raised over $25,000 for our shelter partners and helped 40 dogs find their new families. These events not only support the invaluable work of animal shelters but also connect our customers with the joy of adopting a pet, bringing together lucky pups and even luckier families.

ShelterU Blankets Buy One, Gift One: Animals that arrive at shelters are often frightened by their new surroundings and due to limited resources, sometimes sleep or rest in spaces without proper bedding or blankets. The Black Dog has teamed up with Beantown Blankets, an organization that has been donating blankets to homeless shelters since 2016. Our partnership with Beantown Blankets has now allowed us to support local animal shelters in a similar manner and we are proud to announce that for each Black Dog ShelterU Blanket purchased, we will donate a blanket to a hometown shelter. Since 2019 we have donated over $5,000 gorgeous brand new ShelterU blankets to shelters in need!
