Doggie Adoption Months & Events
Your New Best Friend Is Just a Wag Away
In March 2014, The Black Dog launched our very first Doggie Adoption Month—an initiative that has grown into one of our most meaningful traditions. Each March and September, our General Stores and Outlets partner with local animal shelters to bring adoptable dogs into our stores, giving them a loving chance to meet the families they’ve been waiting for.
Over the years, our teams have built cherished partnerships with rescues across Cape Cod and the Islands, and from Maine all the way to Georgia. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, we’ve raised more than $200,000 for local shelters and helped hundreds of dogs find their forever homes.
Every wagging tail, every joyful match, every life changed—it’s the heartbeat of why we do what we do.
The Black Dog x Clear the Shelters
In August 2025, we proudly announced our partnership with NBCUniversal Local and their nationwide pet‑adoption campaign, Clear The Shelters—an incredible initiative that has helped find loving homes for nearly 1.2 million pets and raised more than $5 million for shelters and rescues since 2015. Through this partnership we were able to donate nearly $100,000 to support shelters and the animals who depend on them.
We’re deeply grateful to be part of a mission that changes so many lives, and we look forward to continuing this meaningful relationship in the years ahead.
Rescue Tails
The original Black Dog—our beloved namesake—was a rescue. She wasn’t just a companion; she became the heart of who we are. Her spirit still guides us, from the products we create to the causes we care about.
That’s why dog adoption means so much to us. It’s more than a mission—it’s part of our story.
Now, we’d love to hear yours.
Tell us about the rescue dog who changed your life. How did they find you? What moment made you realize they were family?
These stories connect us. They remind us that love often arrives unexpectedly—and that sometimes, the dog you rescue ends up rescuing you.
