The Black Dog Tavern was serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, so the only time available to bake the Tavern’s breads and desserts was overnight. Dutifully, every evening, after the kitchen closed for dinner, the baking crew arrived. Eventually, demand for The Black Dog’s baked goods would surpass this arrangement.

Opened in 1973, the Bakery building was once Vineyard Haven’s Firehouse. In addition to desserts, muffins and breads, The Black Dog Bakery was where the first Black Dog tee shirts were put on sale.

Today, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, ginger snaps, pumpkin-cream cheese muffins and warm scones are among the tantalizing array of fresh-baked goods available at The Black Dog Bakery. An array of sandwiches and soups are available, including The Black Dog's famous clam chowder and of course there is always hot coffee. Other items available at this location include: soups, sandwiches, coffee, pastries, donuts, granola and more. You will also find a selection of the bestselling Black Dog retail merchandise.

Your last stop before the ferry, grab something to tide you over on the boat ride. Open daily from 5:30 am to 8 pm.
